Finally!

Welcome back to the new, renamed, revamped blog! We finally bought a house :)

After the years of following home design blogs, and having a brief go at writing one for tenants myself, we are actually renovating a 1935 end of terrace 2 bed house.


As you can see it is not actually green, but over the last few years I have really gotten into reducing waste and being as eco friendly as possible, so one of my main goals for this house is to make it conducive to this - hence the name change of the blog. 

We are in the first month at the moment and we are in the stressful stage of ripping out lots of things, seeing what is underneath, being horrified/pleasantly surprised or somewhere in between, and then deciding what to do. Its all fun and wallpaper stripping round our house this month! Unfortunately not a lot of it was salvageable or there are issues underneath that need sorting so we are having to start again. Flooring is down!

We have now reached the monumental moment where we can get out of bed, go downstairs, through the living room and into the kitchen without having to put shoes or slippers on! Break out the bunting this has been a long time coming!  If you follow me on Instagram (@itsagreenhouse) you may have seen my excitable video tour of our different flooring options, but there is a bit more detail on our choices, the cost and the installation. The kitchen was the first room to get flooring down - tiles and underfloor heating installation and why we chose these tiles for the kitchen are all covered here . Book Review

I read a lot, and since it’s back to school time and the weather is getting cooler I thought it was a perfect time to start sharing some of the books  I've  read so you might read them too!  Revival – Stephen King I am biased as I could read Stephen King all month, but this was another really good book that draws you in and gets into your head. As usual it’s not a book for anyone who  doesn't  like violence, death or gory details in their reading, as he  doesn't  spare your imagination in a lot of the novel. The start was interesting, set in a rural American town and from the perspective of a child. I found the characters really easy to get behind and you get the sense of gathering danger, tension and something brewing. The relationship with the preacher and the effect it has on the characters throughout their lives is a constantly evolving story, at the start you think he might be the good guy but that soon comes into question. Winter Bucket List

It's getting colder and the nights are drawing in, I love this time of year before the novelty of winter wears off! I'm still loving my new scarf and the fact I can wear boots again. Talk to me in a month when it's rain again . Lets be honest we don't get much of an Autumn most years it's chilly and nice for about 2 weeks then it's cold and wet until March. This year I wanted to focus on the positives though! A winter bucket list of things I want to do this year over the colder months. Watch a fireworks display. I know, me, firework phobic who once hid under the family car after bolting from my parents at a firework display. I figure it's time to get over it now I'm a big girl. This year I'm going to go watch a big display maybe with my niece and nephew (so I have to be brave not to freak them out) or maybe just Tom and I.
