Fitting out our built in wardrobe

Today we are covering the project I'm personally most proud of, I did this 100% myself and it turned out much better than expected! I bought the bars but the shelves were the bulk of the work which I  used only scrap wood and paint we already had for, so if you also have scrap wood hanging around (the renovations just seem to produce endless wood off cuts here) and are looking for things to do this could be a good lockdown project. Here's the before and after to get us started, the before photo was the day we moved in and before any work started.  Obviously the rest of the bedroom has had a lot of work done as you can see from those pictures, which is covered here , but this post is just about the functionality and fittings in the wardrobe.  Having a built in wardrobe in the UK isn't necessarily a given, so we are lucky to have a one in the master bedroom. However it wasn't really laid out to use it to its full potential so I did some work to get mo...

Living room progress

The living room has seen sporadic and pretty random progress to be honest but its getting there! This is how it looked on move in day, I ripped that bit of wallpaper off to see what was underneath and we inherited the green lamp with the house... This was the door out to to the kitchen, which originally opened out to a little hallway with the kitchen door to the right and the utility room and toilet on the left, you can see what we did there in the post about the kitchen progress . This was the one room out of the whole house where all four walls were not wallpapered with just the feature walls being wallpaper, although the entire ceiling was wallpapered just to make up for it. We stripped that all off pretty early on and took up the carpet. It stayed like this for quite some time, bare floorboards which luckily were in pretty decent condition, and bare walls. The kitchen lived in here for a bit until it was fitted and before we moved in!     We...

One year update - Hallway, stairs, porch and landing

Here's the one year update on the porch, hallway and landing! Some of the progress is covered back in this post but there have been a few more updates since then so there are updated before and after photos :) We are lucky here to have a really good size porch and entryway, but when we moved in it wasn't very usable. Firstly the front door didn't actually work, it was stuck locked and we didn't have keys for it, so we were going in and out the back or side doors all the time. It was also really cold as the door was quite draughty and there is no heating out there.  We had the permanent ladder up to the open loft hatch on the landing too. Which is finally gone! I really like the window looking over the park, it lets in light to the stairs and landing. The biggest change in the porch has been getting the door and window replaced and getting rid of the dark carpet. The door is a composite from HiTech Windows who also did the rest...
